My interest in medicine began in high school while I was the primary caretaker for my father whose health was in decline. I considered pursuing a career as a PA or NP. But my love for photography won out. However, my job as a storyteller has allowed me to tell stories from all over the world while I traveled with various medical teams, combining multiple passions into one profession.As part of your birth team, my job is to care for you and your family, while also capturing the emotional journey of new life. Sometimes that means putting down the camera to lift heavy objects, get more towels, or play interference with extended family. Because of all of this, several birth professionals have affectionately nicknamed me “The Dude-la”.
Birth photography requires being on call for weeks at a time, being able to operate on very little sleep and with poor lighting conditions. You don’t really know how long you’ll be working, and your client will likely reach all ends of the emotional and physical spectrum. And you’ll be entrusted to capture it all with care and sensitivity. That said, your investment can vary depending on all these variables.
